The Mercer Basketball League is an all-volunteer organization. We recruit up to 150 volunteers each year to help with the operation of the program so that the kids of Dulles South have an opportunity to play basketball in a fun, safe environment.
Below is a description of each of our volunteer positions. We need your help! Fill out the contact form and sign up today!!!
Board Member
Board members help with the overall planning and the operation of the league. The board sets and enforces the league rules, recruits coaches and other volunteers, organizes schedules, sets league fees, and various other tasks required to operate. Board Elections are held in June for a one-year term.
Division Coordinator
Division coordinators are assigned to assist the commissioners with the day-to-day operations of that division. Duties include assisting with the evaluation and draft process, communicating with coaches, collecting game scores, and monitoring league games.
Coach / Assistant Coach
The coach and assistant coach are assigned to teach the kids the fundamentals of basketball and organize all team activities. Coaches run the practices and games, set line ups, and set the example for the kids to follow.
Scorekeeper and Timekeepers
At each of the games, the teams provide one scorekeeper and one timekeeper volunteer. Training is provided for this, and we encourage each team to have multiple volunteers to rotate throughout the year.
Special Events Volunteer
Non-basketball volunteer positions are also available! We have several special events throughout the year, including a kickoff jamboree, travel tournament and other fun events where we need volunteers to do everything from running games to selling concessions.
Referees (paid position)
The Mercer Basketball League contracts out to PVOA for our officials. We need referees from the Dulles South Area. Kids in the 8th grade and up can sign up. Great pay! Parent/Child teams are welcomed!
